Year-round

The lake looks different every season.

The house works for a July family week, a fall color weekend, or a winter ice-fishing trip. Here is what each season is like on Little Pine.

Summer

Beach days and long sunsets.

Sandy shore for swimming, dock for fishing or tying up a boat, covered patio for meals, and the fire pit after dark. The cardboard boat races, the Loons & Lakes Festival, and the full Whitefish Chain are a short drive or boat ride away. Golf is easy too — Crosswoods Golf Course is right in Crosslake and widely regarded as one of the best in the Brainerd Lakes area.

Fall

Color, quiet, and the fire pit.

The trees turn and the lake stays calm. Ideal for smaller groups who want evenings around the fire and short drives into Crosslake for dinner. Crosslake Days (late September) is the big local festival. Fall is also a great time for golf at Crosswoods — fewer crowds and the Northwoods color is at its best.

Winter

Frozen lake from the patio.

The house is fully winterized. Watch ice fishing shacks go out, use the fire pit when conditions allow, and enjoy the covered patio. Nearby trails and town still have things to do. See the What’s Happening page for winter community nights. Plan a winter group trip.

  • Ice fishing — Little Pine and the Whitefish Chain are popular for ice fishing. Houses and tip-ups are common once the ice is safe. The house gives you a front-row seat to the activity on the lake.
  • Snowmobiling — The Crosslake area has a strong snowmobile trail system. Trails connect through the Whitefish Chain region and into the broader Brainerd Lakes network. Many guests bring machines or rent nearby; ask locally for current trail conditions and access points.
  • Covered patio and fire pit still work on milder winter days.
  • Town stays active with community nights, dining, and the usual Crosslake stops a short drive away.

Spring

Ice out and quiet mornings.

The misty mornings and returning loons are worth the trip. Fishing picks up, the town reopens more fully, and you still get the house mostly to yourselves before the summer rush. Spring is also when Crosswoods and the other local courses open — a quiet time to play before the summer rush.
